Temporary Summary

Nothing repelled him more than the idea of becoming a wood warder, so when Amie requested for Vanya to accompany her in leaving the forest behind forever, he couldn’t accept fast enough. She was a notably different person back then, in numerous ways - he never could have predicted where aiding her (and at the time, himself as well) would end up.

Their years in Dalmasca were mostly spent apart - Amie was preoccupied with both long hours at work to keep a roof over their heads, and figuring out her own personal metamorphosis; Vanya was still quite young at the time, causing all sorts of predicaments from engaging in the usual shenanigans of adolescents. It created some tension early in their relationship. This wasn’t helped when he was left behind, when Amie chose to ‘lie low’ on the shores of Meracydia.

He couldn’t rightfully say he was abandoned - his mother most certainly offered for him to come along (and assumed he would). But in choosing to stay, he had little to work with - in terms of both capabilities and resources. Most his Dalmascan years were spent sowing his oats, after all.

For around two decades, he scraped by either by learning skills on the job itself - accepting any paying employment that would take him - or by the sheer luck of finding an...admirer, who made sure he was comfortable. To this day, he’s unsure if it was the worst years of his life...or if it was somehow better than where he ended up. At some point Amie managed to get a missive to him, informing him she was now in Sharlayan – and inviting him to come join her. Included was quite a bit of currency, ensuring he he could afford any travel expenses if he did - but initially Vanya had balked, because it almost felt like...an incentive. A bribe for him to not resent her. He refused to indulge the overture for approximately half a year, but when the well of that ‘bribe’ began to run dry...well, he’d figured it couldn’t hurt.

He became a permanent fixture in Amie’s life after the Sharlayan reunion – not attached to the hip, by any means, but their fates became inextricably linked. Vanya not only witnessed Amie’s journey of power accumulation, he took part in most of it – a trust built on shared ordeals and mutually assured destruction. The reward was a life that allowed him to indulge in whatever activity tickled his fancy, with a safety net against risk in Amie’s rapidly growing wealth. A gilded life for Amie’s golden child.

After some...circumstances led them to depart Ala Mhigo in favor of Thavnair, his mother ‘officially’ requested for Vanya to become her envoy – entrusting him to conduct business in her name anywhere she happened to be unable to go at the time. It was a minimal change to his already-existing role in her businesses, and (as always with Amie) the reimbursement offered was lavish...so of course he accepted.

Upon relocating her primary residence to Ishgard, Vanya opted to move to Ul’dah – he couldn’t stand to stay in Ishgard for more than a few days after what had happened during their previous stint in the dragon-infested lands. Ul’dah was both a place he knew well, and a location Amie would ask him to visit often for business purposes; luckily, his mother never asked that he stay at the same residence as her...only that he remained in contact and complacent.
